In the United States, we collect federal taxes based on the “honor system”.  In other words, our taxpayers file their returns themselves, and the rest of society relies on the honesty of their work.  Of course, whenever people are involved, there will always be the temptation to “fudge” or stretch the truth while filling out their returns.   This is why we need a well-funded IRS.  After all, as the great Ronald Reagan famously said, "Trust but verify..."

Fast forward to these challenging times, we have an entire political party that routinely presents “alternate facts” and lies based on promoting their political agenda and personal financial gain.

Spring Forward; Fall Back; Rinse and Repeat

Readers may remember that in 2018, Californians voted on and approved Prop 7, which would have put California on permanent daylight savings time.  This would have eliminated the annoying clock changes twice every year.  Nice try but it didn’t work because it required legislation from the federal government… not a trivial endeavor… thanks to the Uniform Time Act of 1966.

It’s already common knowledge that history is not a subject that Republicons have a good handle on.  Their collective memory is comparable to a banana slug.  And they often make things up as they go along.  You would think the former Governor of the great state of South Carolina would have a good understanding of this topic.
